My Dear Sara
I am having a tough day today because this was my dear Sara's birthday. She would have been 15 years old and I still can't believe she's gone from my life. D: For those of you who may not know, Sara (pictured in icon) was my bi-black sheltie who passed away last year due to complications from a disease that left her unable to digest proteins. I remember last February 4th, my Mom and I sang 'Happy Birthday' to her and she seemed fine. Little did we know, a month later we'd be saying our final goodbyes.

She was the sweetest, most loving soul and my feelings of grief & sadness are still very much alive, but I do try and remember the happy times and focus on those as best I can. I miss every single day that she has been absent from my life and I pray that someday we will be reunited with her again.

I'm so sorry... I didn't know any of this. *hugs* I've been struggling with my old boy's health issues a lot lately, worrying and wondering how much time he has left, so I can kind of relate. 14+ years is an amazing age, although with animals the lifespan is always too short. *more hugs*

Thanks Mervi! I hope your boy stays strong. It really does suck that dogs have to age so much faster than other animals. D:

I'm so sorry. :( That's a beautiful icon of her.

I'm dealing with a loss myself, so I know exactly how you feel.

I also had a sheltie that passed away relatively recently. His name was Lucky, and we named him that because he came from an abusive home. His previous owners had him tied up to a tree outside and refused to take him to the vet when a cow (they lived on a cattle farm) stepped on him and broke his right back leg. The bottom half of the leg was turned backwards from the joint downward. Imagine if your heel was pointing in the direction that your toes were supposed to point in. Amazingly, this injury did not slow him down one bit. He could run and jump just a well as any dog. Although he was not very affectionate, due to his abusive past, it was still sad when he passed away in July of 2007. He was 16 years old!

Anyway, sorry for your loss. Sara was a beautiful dog. I've never seen a black & white sheltie before. That color combo must be rare.

Oh, that's so sad and ironic that you had a sheltie too. Poor thing went through a lot, I'm glad he ended up with a nice person like you taking care of him!

You don't see many black & white shelties, I think they're a little more common now though. I have to scan some more pics of her to share here! =)

It hurts to see them go, even if you had some warning or inkling that it was going to happen. Murray has been gone about 6 months now, and I still think about him a lot. Something tells me that he and your Sara are kindred spirits at Rainbow Bridge :-)

Thank you! It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to endure, but what you said gives me some comfort so I appreciate that. <3
