Help...Another Graphics Question!
I am really hoping someone can answer this for me. I would like to know if there is a way to decrease the kb size of a photo with CS3? I know that on Tumblr you can only have a photo that is 500 x 700 and it has to be no larger than 500kb or the quality diminishes. Can anyone please help me figure this out??

I know you can upload bigger sized pics, but apparently if the size is bigger than 500kb, Tumblr alters the quality. :(

hummm.. that is so strange!

and you flatten the images? and save as Jepg or Png?

Yes, I definitely flatten the images and usually save them as png or jpg. It's okay anyway, I think I figured out what to do. ^^

I uploaded much bigger pics there. Never had a problem.
Only gifs can't be larger than 500kb

??????????????
i use 500x700 cause i like the results but you can have pictures any size. oh hell i posted picspams with 1000px width and of course on the dash appears like a 500px one but if you click on it you get the full size. the thing about the gifs is that if they are larger then 500px won't play, don't know why and if they are bigger then 500kb again won't play but that doesn't apply for the pictures

I know you can upload bigger sized pics, but apparently if the size is bigger than 500kb, Tumblr alters the quality. :( All my pics look so much more colorful in CS3, then when I post them the color has faded and doesn't look nearly as nice as I'd intended. That's why I thought if I could decrease the kb size to 500 maybe the quality would stay intact?

it's not the 500 thing. you need to see if you have the right color settings for adobe . icon_tutorial had a few posts dealing with this kind of things

Thanks. I'll have to try and search on there and find that!

I agree with belewien I don't have Photoshop CS-whatever, but I have Photoshop Elements and whenever I want to decrease the file size of an image, I choose "Save for Web." You can choose how much to optimize a file. The higher you do it, the smaller the file size, but the poorer the image quality. I'd say around 50-60% is a pretty good value for it.

Thanks so much, Jess! That link belewien gave me explained everything pretty well. :D
